This bill amends the current act allowing counties to levy taxes on hotels. While this may provide a short term gain for local governments to pick the pockets of a business sector, in the end, it only adds additional costs of doing business, driving up prices, and reducing tourism and travel.

Nesbitt voted no.

Wendzel voted yes.

Michigan currently has a rules that state energy regulations cannot exceed those of the federal government. This bill repeals that rule.

The purpose of this repeal is to allow the Democrat legislature to introduce a host of new regulations relating to the energy sector. This will result in increased heating and energy costs for both businesses and voters. One needs only to look to California with their exorbitant taxes and fees, rolling blackouts, and high gas prices to see the results of these regulations.

The bill requires employers to share employees’ name, home address, cell phone number, work address location, and personal email address with labor representatives every 90 days.

This is a means for Democrats to provide personal information including home addresses of employees who opt out of union representation. It is a violation of personal privacy and workers should be the ones who decide who their employer can share their personal information with.

Sen. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, said the bill is an “unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.” Albert said there were no additional safeguards to protect personal information, and added that a bill substitute that wasn’t adopted yet also aimed to divulge employee wage to unions too.

Almost all licensing schemes by government are a means of preventing competition in the market. Much like licensing of hair stylists, this is another example of rent-seeking and manipulation of labor markets. Given that hunters, in particular, are already educated in both practice and safety, as a prerequisite to getting their license, the guide provides little extra the state should have an interest in regulating.

States that have Right to Work have seen faster income growth, state population growth, and with that, faster workforce growth. But it also results in workers fleeing corrupt unions. Since Right to Work was passed in 2013 at least 140,000 workers disassociated from their union. The bill is blatantly anti-worker and a money handout to unions.

Sen. Nesbitt voted no.

Rep. Wendzel voted yes.
